Early Years

Education should be fun and at King's we create an opportunity for the very youngest children to set out with purpose on this great adventure.

Our Nursery and Reception classes are located in Wardle House, an historic building situated within the Cathedral Close. Here our very youngest children are cared for by a well-qualified and enthusiastic team of staff in a safe and secure environment dedicated to the Early Years. As well as enjoying spacious classrooms, a large, fully enclosed garden and excellent staffing ratio, the children also benefit from access to the facilities and specialist staff of the whole King’s School.

Wardle House provides an early learning experience which is challenging and fun for young children. We believe that a good Early Years education lays the foundations for everything that follows. Young children soak up new experiences and information at remarkable speed, and they need a secure and stable environment in which they can develop and grow. King’s offers a structured curriculum, designed to balance their need for exploration and play with enjoyable learning activities.

At King’s we celebrate the individuality of our pupils and enable them to develop their unique gifts and pursue their own enthusiasms. A strong, moral framework, within a Christian environment, underpins life in our school. Within this supportive structure, we believe that all children in our care can learn to value each other and themselves.

The transition from the Foundation Years at Wardle House to Key Stages 1 and 2 is smooth, setting the right tone for a productive life in Junior School. Our success is founded on building each individual’s confidence and self-esteem through participation, performance and play alongside the pursuit of excellence in the classroom.
