At King’s the emphasis is on imagination and creativity. We give all our students ample opportunity to develop their improvisation skills, as well as experience and improve specialist performance techniques such as mime and stage combat.
The Junior and Senior groups follow a programme tailored to the needs of each group. Previous course content includes, Greek Theatre and choral speaking, dance drama, physical theatre and archetypal character studies.
This year, we will be looking at alternative theatre forms and theatre from around the world. We are hoping that the students will experience a number of performance skills from a new perspective.
The Performance Group comprises students from both the Junior and Senior groups and is by audition only. Students will be given further opportunities to show their skills and will be expected to take a greater role in producing and directing their own work.
The emphasis is on creative autonomy and the Performance Group take responsibility for various aspects of their work from scriptwriting and costuming, to marketing and publicity. Because of this, we expect a high level of commitment from every member of the Performance Group and will operate a ‘two strikes and you’re out rule’, whereby those who have been absent from the group twice in a term, without good reason, will be asked to leave.
The Performance Group is an excellent opportunity for those who wish to explore other facets of the theatre, as well as those who wish to increase their experience of public performance.
