Chorister Duties

Choristers’ duties take priority over other school and social activities. As such there is a commitment required from both the Chorister and his family. Family holidays may only be taken during choir holidays. Parents have to be prepared to see that their son is brought to the Cathedral to meet all their commitments during term time, Holy Week, Easter, on the days between the end of Michaelmas term up to and including Christmas Day.

Choristers also take part in the famous Three Choirs Festival held annually in August when the location rotates between Gloucester, Hereford and Worcester. In addition, special Diocesan and Civic services, radio and television performances, weddings and funerals involve the Choristers from time to time.

Every effort is made to ensure that school lessons are missed on only a few occasions, equally, the Choristers are encouraged to take as full a part as possible in school activities, including drama and sport. The close liaison between the School and the Cathedral is complex and is managed by the Chorister Tutor who has a role both in The King’s School and in the Cathedral.
