Outdoor Pursuits Society

Since its formation in 2007 the Outdoor Pursuits Society has gone from strength to strength. Its purpose is simple:

‘To inspire young people to get actively involved in and to enjoy adventure and outdoor pursuits, as well as to develop a lifelong enthusiasm for the outdoors.’

The Outdoor Pursuits Society aims to offer inspirational and exciting trips to those students who are keen to challenge themselves in the outdoor environment. Hopefully through the variety of trips that we run, students will develop a real lifelong passion for outdoor pursuits.

In its relatively short history, the Outdoor Pursuits Society has covered a large range of exciting outdoor environments within Britain, ranging from the mountains of the Lake District and Snowdonia to the more rolling landscape of the Yorkshire Dales and the rocky coastline of Cornwall.

Typical trips involve an overnight stay in a hostel accompanied by a very large dinner and breakfast in order to fuel us for the challenging day of walking and scrambling that lies ahead!

We have also expanded our horizons by attending various inspirational talks by famous mountaineers. One especially exciting talk was given by Doug Scott CBE, the famous British mountaineer who along with Dougal Haston became the first Britain to summit Mount Everest. He spoke about his experiences in the mountains and expeditions conducted with fellow British climber, Sir Chris Bonnington.

Future trips in the pipeline include:

• The Three Peaks Challenge

• A Scottish venture

I hope you enjoy the photos and reports from a selection of our trips.
