Second Form Trip to Normandy 2010

On Monday the 29th March 2010 the second form departed by coach from the King’s school car park for their activity break in Normandy. The journey was extremely long and after about thirteen hours of travelling by coach and ferry we finally arrived at our accommodation at around 12:00am, exhausted but looking forward to the week ahead. We were introduced to our French guide for the week, Sam, before going to our dormitories for a much needed nights sleep. Over the following three days we took part in a variety of activities at the Château de La Baudonnière which included fencing, climbing, aeroball (a basketball type game played on a trampoline) and photogram (exposing and developing photos). All the instructions were given to us in French – and just to make sure we had understood, we had to repeat them back in English before we could start. We also went on excursions to Mont St Michel, Pointe du Hoc (a 2nd World War battle site), a hypermarche, Coutances market and a goat farm. In our evenings we enjoyed a French themed evening (which included a French Quiz and French fancy dress), and a talent show with a disco. We even got to try snails – which really weren’t that bad! On our final morning, we had to get up really early to catch the ferry back to England and we finally arrived back at school at 4:30pm. We were all sad to leave but a great time was had by all staff and pupils.
