House Debate 2009

There has been a notable increase in the profile and quality of House Debate in recent years, this year more than ever. The motion was that ‘This house would put further restrictions on the sale and consumption of alcohol’ in UK, and there was lively argument among all the teams. Each speaker made a 3-4 minute speech, giving rebuttal to other speeches and finally answering questions from the floor. Laud House, with Emma Nelson, Ciaran Walshe, Ben Carlton and Tom Allen on the team, was the eventual winner although the competition was tough and there were very few points between all the teams. There was a promising amount of interest shown in the competition and we hope that next year will prove the Debate to be an even more exciting event.
