Wheeler House

Head of House: Mr Munnion

House Captains: Ed Mifflin and Nic Sims

Why Wheeler House?

Maurice Wheeler, who was widely considered to be one of the most obviously distinguished educationalists of his day, transformed the school in the early 1700's. As Headmaster he changed the name from the College School, to the King's School as well as being the first Headmaster to take a register.

Wheeler pioneered new ideas such as the prefect system, integrating the choristers in to the school life, extra-curricular activities and he also supported the aspect that physical education can play in child development. In a way, he developed ideas that the school still follow strongly to this day.

In the 28 years that Maurice Wheeler was Headmaster he built King's school up from having 57 boys, to 647 when he left in 1712. He truly is one of the most influential Headmasters in the history of the King's School.

The Wheeler House Song

As a member of Wheeler we take pride in being the most noticeable when we go along to support our peers. We are lucky to be yellow in colour so being the brightest comes naturally, but more importantly it is our song that makes us the loudest. I know for sure it inspires our sports and performing arts teams to success.

The song is put to the music "The Entertainer" which is a 1902 piano rag written by Scott Joplin.
