Art Trip to London

On Monday 2nd March the department took the Lower and Upper Sixth to London for the day to heighten their knowledge of art and design and of course to have an exciting day out. The first stop was Tate Modern to see the ‘Rodchenko and Popova: Defining Constructivism’ exhibition. These guys were leading artists and designers of their time and their work was to have a huge impact on the art and design that followed. Secondly we went to the Design Museum to see the work of Hussein Chalayan, a leading front man of contemporary fashion design. Amongst the exhibits were works, fashion design, using the latest LED technology, a fascinating display of catwalk creativity. Third and finally we visited the London Transport Museum to see ‘The Art of the Poster’ Over sixty original artworks were on display of outstanding poster design for London’s public transport network. The exhibition was small but perfectly formed and we were also able to explore the various old buses and trams, taking some of us on a trip down memory lane. Overall the trip was a great success and pupils were inspired by works they would not have normally ventured to see.
