King’s reaches the second round!
King’s has made it through to the second round of the BBC’s Schools Question Time competition. The competition is aimed at developing political literacy and citizenship life skills and supported by the BBC, the Institute for Citizenship and Parliament’s Education Service. Stage one was to complete a detailed application outlining plans for an episode of Question Time. Mr Evetts and his A2 Politics students decided on a range of issues, which included amongst others, energy, constitutional reform and education. They were also required to suggest a panel as part of the application and it proved much trickier than anticipated. They had to weigh up influences such as political perspective, expertise, accessibility and background in order to find a balanced panel that could engage in meaningful debate.
45 schools have been selected from across the country as regional finalists and each one now has to produce a short video of one of their selected issues being debated by a panel. The video is then sent to the BBC where it will be judged and 15 winners are announced in January.
