Senior School Speech Day 2010

The school year ended on Thursday 8th July with a day that once again celebrated the pupils' many achievements over the year as a whole.

The morning started with speeches by the Headmaster followed by Isabel Seymour, Head of School, who reviewed the year's highlights in an address of great fluency and wit ending with:

"The Upper Sixth leave you today with happy memories of King's, sad to leave and yet excited for their future.  King's has shaped us individually, encouraging and guiding us in many different areas.  I joined the school, for instance, as a hopeful hockey player, but the school was able to discover in me much more than that, leading to drama productions and to singing in various choirs, amongst many other things.  However, my doggy paddle has remained at basic level, and although I only swam in one race at this year's swimming gala, at least it was one more than the Headmaster managed this year.  For many of us leavers, our school memories come from experiences with other pupils and staff, highlighting again the importance of the School's family atmosphere.  This really shouldn't be taken for granted, as it is truly at the heart of life at King's, and can rarely be found anywhere else."

The prizes were presented by the day's chief guest, Baroness Royall of Blaisdon.

After refreshments in the marquee and the Dining Hall, the formal part of the day then concluded with a service in the Cathedral.  All then adjourned back to the marquee for lunch before departing for the Summer break.
