Science Technology & Engineering at King's School (STEAKS)

Back in 1993, a group, comprising parents with an engineering background and staff, was established at King's to provide advice and help on a range of activities involving Science and Engineering. One of the principal aims was to encourage pupils to consider a career in engineering and technology. We were encouraged at the time by an initiative of the Engineering Council, which supported such groups.

This group, now called STEAKS, has provided enormous support and opportunities for our staff and pupils. Through the initiative, we have made links with firms such as BT, GCHQ, British Energy and Chronos Technology. Our group is the sole surviving group in the area following the 1993 initiative - indicating the level of commitment from the staff and the parents involved.

The group has reviewed its position and as a result adopted a wider focus - Science and Technology as well as Engineering. The aim is to promote careers in science, technology, engineering and mathematics and STEAKS is affiliated to the DTI/DFES initiative STETNET.

If any parents are interested in joining the group - either as technologists or with children keen on the subject areas, and you would like to find out more about the group please contact the Chairman Mr. Charles Curry on charles.curry@btinternet.com. Alternatively contact the Headmaster's Secretary on 01452 337337.
