The Parliament Rooms

Our 3rd annual wine tasting and what a fantastic evening!

70 wine lovers joined the Headmaster at the Parliament Rooms to listen to fascinating facts about 8 different wines.

Each table brought their own nibbles and part of the fun was establishing which kind of foods complimented each wine.

The Headmaster selected a vintage champagne that was on special offer at Majestic at half its £30 price tag as a delightful start to the evening. Following this were 3 white wines and 3 red chosen by Mr Lacey plus the now traditional 2 'guest wines' by Sue Partridge and Mark Banks. Sue chose a New Zealand Pinot Noir and Mark chose a more full bodied red. However, as his was the last wine to be sampled, it did prove difficult to hear his words of wisdom above the general 'bonhomie' that had spread through the room!

The Parliament Room was a very atmospheric venue for the event and offered us the chance to invite many more people than can fit in Little Cloister House. Adding to this atmosphere was Mr Derek Harris and his Madrigal Singers who serenaded us with 2 sets of about 4 or 5 songs each time - it was magical!

An evening like this cannot take place without many people behind the scenes making it happen, so I would like to take this opportunity to say a HUGE thank you to the following:

  • Mr Peter Lacey - without his wine expertise, this whole evening would not have been possible
  • Andrew Hamilton, Nicky Mifflin and Nigel - our very attentive wine waiters who worked from 7pm til midnight to ensure we were well watered!
  • Mr Derek Harris and the Madrigal Singers who sang so beautifully
  • Mrs Lacey for feeding and watering all volunteers present
  • Spence and Roy, the caretakers - who moved chairs, tables, wine, glasses etc, etc and generally ensured it all was in place for us
  • Pat Jenkins - who supplied us with tablecloths, wine glasses, jugs etc, etc and didn't mind if we didn't do the washing up!

The purpose of this evening was not to raise funds as we have had a very successful fundraising year already and have raised sufficient funds for all our funding requests this year. However, it was an opportunity to gather parents and teachers together in an informal, social way and it was great fun!

Next event is of course the Victorian May Fayre in celebration of the 200th anniversary of Isambard Kingdom Brunel. It will be a bridge building and steam extravaganza! Do put Saturday 13th May - 12pm-4pm in your diary!!

Thanks again to everyone who attended for your support. Most of those who attended are present at EVERY KSPA event and without you it wouldn't be so much fun!

See you at the next event!
