Team Spirit May Fayre

Saturday 22 May - 12pm-4pm

What a wonderful day was had by all at the May Fayre this Saturday. It really was a day of 'Team Spirit' where parents and teachers worked together to make a great event.

Team Spirit was a concept created to give everyone a chance to participate in the event. 13 challenge stations were positioned around the edge of the Paddock and teams of 5 moved from one challenge to the next collecting points as they went. Each challenge was handicapped to give every team member an equal chance whether 4 years old or 44 years old. Challenges ranged from Memory games, egg and spoon obstacle course, beat the goalie and many more.

There was a chance to win as a team member or as an individual. In addition to this, we had a separate rowing challenge available for any age to test their stamina and speed.

The winners of Team Spirit were as follows:

Winning Team and holders of the Ottakars Challenge Cup = Smart Woods

Ben Woodliffe, Hannah Woodliffe, Polly Smart, Mark Woodliffe and David Smart

Winning Individuals

Golf Ball putting challenge Archie with 10 points

Beat the Goalie challenge Cameron Tyler with 8 points

Paper Planes challenge Sebastian Hamilton with 4 metres

Beanbag Target challenge Josh d'Costa with 60 points

Netballs challenge Dan Consitt with 26 points

Giant Jenga challenge Flora Davies with 21 points

The winners of the Rowing Machine Challenge of the furthest distance in 45 seconds were:

Under 5's Henry Wigston with 92 metres

Under 10's Edward Lifely with 135 metres

Under 16's Darren Twigg with 213 metres

16+ Female Mrs Judith Brooke with 203 metres

16+ Male Mr Mike Wigston with 265 metres

In addition to all the Team Spirit fun and frolics, there were the traditional May Fayre activities - something to appeal to everyone - raffle, tombola, cake stall, plant stall, tea room, bar, barbeque, book stall and filled basket stall - all of which provided a huge percentage of the funds raised on the day.

The vast majority of the children attending the fayre were from Wardle House and Junior School and they had a vast choice of options to spend their pennies on!! - face painting, bouncy castle and slide, cups and saucers ride and soft toy tombola - run by the Choristers.

The Team Spirit May Fayre raised a record breaking £1750 on Saturday and the KSPA would like to pass on a huge vote of thanks to everyone involved in making the day such a success.

We have successfully reached our target of fund raising for this year to provide the following items requested by teachers at the school:

  • CAD/CAM Milling Machine for the Design Technology Department - Cost £4500
  • Duke of Edinburgh Award Scheme equipment - Cost £1000
  • 2 Table Tennis tables for after school clubs - Cost £400

The May Fayre plus the other KSPA run events that have taken place this year can only claim to be a success with the help and involvement of the whole school - pupils, parents, teachers and governors. Team Spirit May Fayre is a fitting finale to this year's fund raising events as it truly epitomised the aims and wishes of the KSPA.

Thank you once more to everyone who participated, in whatever way, at the May Fayre on Saturday. We look forward to your support in next year's events.
