Geography AS/A Level
Units:
An AS Level in Geography is the first half of the course and the standard of work is equivalent to that being done by students in the Lower Sixth at present. (You can take the AS on its own, if you and your teacher decide this is best for you). It is a stepping stone to the full A level qualifications, and at the end of the AS course you will decide whether to take the full A level qualification. Several topics covered in the course are developments of work concerned at GCSE, but others are new. What is more important is that you should have a lively and enquiring mind, an interest in the environment and current affairs, a willingness to explore new ideas and an ability to communicate your ideas effectively. We aim to make our lessons as interesting and informative as possible using a variety of teaching aids: video, OHP, slides, IT and field work. We want all students to be as enthusiastic about Geography as we are! Fieldwork it should be noted is a integral part of our work in Geography, especially in the Sixth Form. To comply with examination regulations, we have two days of fieldwork: one physical and the other human. We now do our own fieldwork on school days. For the physical day we do our research on fluvial systems at Arlebrook near Standish. The human fieldwork is carried out at Tewkesbury.
