AIMS OF THE MODERN LANGUAGES DEPARTMENT

  1. To develop pupils' ability to COMMUNICATE effectively in the target language
  2. To encourage a positive attitude towards languages and cultures where the target languages are spoken.
  3. To offer enjoyment and a sense of achievement through the learning process and the methods and materials we use.
  4. To encourage pupils to work both independently and co-operatively in pairs or groups.
  5. To provide a basis for good learning and study habits for all pupils
  6. To help all pupils achieve their full potential in languages learning, regardless of race, gender or physical disability.
  7. To provide a basis for the opportunity to pursue academic excellence in the field of languages.
  8. To enable pupils to be a credit to themselves and the school in public examinations.
  9. To provide a platform for the study of languages in further and higher education.
  10. To enable pupils to become members of the EU and compete within the wider jobs market.
  11. To foster an atmosphere of tolerance, understanding and co-operation in the classroom.
