Key Stage 3 (Years 7-9)

Over the three years Encore Tricolore Nouvelle Books 1 and 2 are used. Some time in Year 9 is also used to introduce more advanced GCSE style work. The course covers speaking, writing, reading and listening skills, as well as the acquisition of vocabulary and grammar. Here is a summary of the main topics covered.

Key Stage 4 (Years 10-11)

The Tricolore 4 course book is used over two years in preparation for the OCR GCSE examination.  Nearer examination time, practice of examination papers and revision are incorporated into the lessons. Here is a summary of the main topics covered during the course. Some of the topics from KS3 will be revisited, but with more advanced language.

AS LEVEL FRENCH

The Lower 6th course will lead to Edexcel AS Level and is taught on 7 periods per week. The lessons are taught through a mixture of topics and skills. The main teaching language is French, but English will be used to explain grammar and difficult comprehension points. English is also used in discussing pupils’ progress and going through examination requirements and techniques. In addition to the AS topics, a grammar course is covered over the Lower 6th year, and students see a French assistant once a week

In addition to the general topics, students will study a book or a play in French, as well as an in depth study of another topic. The main teaching language is French, but English will be used to explain grammar and difficult comprehension points. English is also used in discussing pupils’ progress and going through examination requirements and techniques. All students have an individual lesson with a French assistant once a week

English is also used in discussing pupils’ progress and going through examination requirements and techniques.
