First Form (Year 7)

Initial lessons

In the first form, for the first five or so weeks, the pupils are taught in forms. They will be covering:

  • General Arithmetic - including decimal numbers
  • Fractions – including adding, subtracting, multiplying and division
  • Index numbers – simple powers such as 23 = 8
  • Negative number
  • Algebra – collecting and simplifying, and simple equations

Then the pupils will undergo an exam. The results of which, along with input from their teacher, will allow us to set the pupils for the remainder of the year.

Scheme of Work

Following the setting of the year group, the pupils will then follow a scheme of work that will include the following topics:

  • Co-ordinates – including plotting straight lines
  • Transformations – such as reflections and rotations
  • Percentages
  • Polygons
  • Probability
  • Area
  • Data handling – including a look at all three types of averages
  • 3-D shapes
