“5 out of 4 people have trouble with fractions” Sixth FormAS and A2 mathematics’ students also follow the Edexcel specifications. AS study involves taking the C1 and C2 pure mathematics modules (including an introduction to the wonderful world of calculus) along with one application module. The department can teach modules in: mechanics (useful for physics), statistics (useful for Biology, Economics, Geography amongst others) and decision mathematics (who knows - but fun nonetheless…) and we try, where possible, to accommodate the interests of the students when choosing which application to study. A2 students take two further pure modules (C3 and C4) and one more application module. Further Mathematics students study six more modules, typically including three more pure modules and three applications. Interested students can also be prepared for the Advanced Extension Award in mathematics which is again run by Edexcel.
