Science Enrichment

The science department looks to provide opportunity to extend all pupils in their enjoyment and understanding of Science. This is firstly done in lessons. Small class sizes allow teachers to dedicate individual time to pupils of all abilities. Secondly, outside the classroom. A diverse programme of enrichment is provided in order to allow pupils to experience as much of the physical and natural world as possible within and beyond the curriculum in order to stimulate and excite their interest and enthusiasm in the subject. Here are some of the things the department puts on:

  • Science club- run as an activity on Tuesday Period 5B
  • A 4 week Gifted and talented Saturday morning programme with other link schools.
  • Science challenge afternoon- a competition for teams from local Junior schools linked in with The school STEAKS (Ambassador) group.
  • Junior school stand alone lessons and activities during their Science Day.
  • Science-based ‘career’ project in 3rd year.
  • Strong representation and involvement in the 6th form conference, the Fendick presentation and 1st and 2nd year projects.
  • Themed evenings led by a visiting speaker.
  • A variety of trips and field days.
