The Wildlife Haven

The initial construction of the pond began in October 2000 during an Open Day and work continued through half term. Prior to construction there was nothing much there except one rotten apple tree that had to be removed by a tree surgeon, and there were a number of overgrown flowerbeds.

Everything that has been achieved has been done through teamwork. From the initial idea of Carol Barber's when she did a days work experience at the Gloucester Wildlife Trust in February 2000 to the help and support given by the former estate manager at the school, Mike Carter. Rosie Woolley the education officer at the trust has given vast amounts of advice about the planning and preparation of the site. Rosie also helped with the digging and has been back many times since to monitor progress. A number of students helped with the initial digging of the site as well. Many parents and friends have also contributed plants, gravel and their time. It is seen as very much as a whole school project , and is a unique resource that is used and enjoyed by students both in the junior and senior school. It really is a peaceful place and it is hard to believe that it is in the heart of the city as it is teeming with wildlife.
