KSG LONDON REUNION

2nd March 2007

What a night for it! The torrential rain might have put off some people but there, under the arches of the Ritz in Piccadilly, my brother Julian and I met, as arranged at the last minute, and made our way to the quiet and dry entrance hall of the East India Club. After trying to work out how to fasten one’s coat, battered umbrella and brief cases to the secure peg system in the cloakroom, we ventured upstairs by lift.

All the calm was suddenly broken by the unmistakable sounds of a very large number of people greeting each other – we found the room without too much trouble!

Within a few moments I discovered some familiar names (excellent idea to have name badges) and the faces that went with them:

I remember you – you were a pianist and lived in Dulverton – I was only in Remove then.

Is that really the last time we spoke – 1967?!

So you still live in Gloucestershire?

And so went countless conversations that evening. I was particularly impressed and fascinated by a collection of School Calendars dating back to the early 1950s and to find my name in the list of 1954 – Lower Prep!

Old Choristers were not many that evening, but three of us ( not contemporaries) certainly enjoyed the photo collections of the cathedral choir in the 40s and 50s.

Many others will have renewed friendships and recounted tales of – well, all kinds! It was good to have an excellent number of current students who sang very professionally amidst a rather embarrassing background of high-level conversations.

Congratulations to the organisers – and sorry for the last minute acceptance.

I have thoroughly enjoyed the impressive A Photographic History which was on sale during the evening.
