Junior School
Boys and Girls from 3 to 11
Wardle House is the centre of Foundation Years education. It houses the Nursery, Reception and Kindergarten (Years 0 to 1)
The Anniversary Building contains Junior School (Years 2 to 6)
Admission to Wardle House and Junior School differs according to age. Interviews and assessments will take place. For entry into Years 5 and 6 candidates may be required to sit a VRQ test.
An opportunity to spend a trial day is offered following a visit to Open Morning or by arrangement.
Nursery applicants are encouraged to make a preliminary visit to Wardle House during the school day.
Choral Scholarships (Boys only)
Voice trials for Choristerships into the Gloucester Cathedral Choir are held each year for boys between 7 and 9. Cathedral Choristers have a 75% scholarship at The King's School until they leave the choir when they are eligible for a Bursary. Further details are available.
Senior School
Entrance at 11+
Entrance and Scholarship examinations take place on a yearly basis. There are papers in both English and Mathematics together with a VRQ test. All candidates will be interviewed. Account is always taken of current school reports.
Common Entrance, Scholarships and Entrance at 13+
Entrance to the Third Form (Y9) is normally by Common Entrance Examination. If candidates have not followed the Common Entrance Syllabus, special arrangements can be made. Candidates of outstanding ability are encouraged to sit for a Scholarship. Papers are set in Mathematics and English together with a Scientific Practical and an interview. The candidate's portfolio is also taken into consideration.
Sixth Form
Students who have taken their GCSE courses elsewhere are welcome to join the Sixth Form at King's. Entry is conditional on results and after an interview. Sixth Form Scholarships are available.
Other Awards
Awards are also available in non-academic subjects at 11+, 13+ and Sixth Form in Music, Drama, Sport and Art. They are only awarded to pupils of outstanding ability within their field.
Entry in other years (years 8,10 and 11)
Entry is by formal interview, school reports and portfolio of work. Candidates are expected to spend a day in school by arrangement.
The Headmaster usually interviews all applicants and their parents. The principal aim is to assess whether the values and aspirations of the applicant and the parents are in harmony with those of the school.
