Non-Academic AwardsNon-Academic Awards are available for suitable candidates wishing to enter the school at 11+, 13+ and 16+ provided they also show evidence of a satisfactory standard in academic work. Key Dates11+ and 13+ Non-Academic Awards take place on Thursday, 25th January 2007 All assessments for 6th Form Non-Academic Awards take place on Thursday, 15th March 2007 Sport AwardsYoung sportsmen and sportswomen of exceptional ability may put themselves forward for a Sport Award. Awards of Exhibition status will be made for outstanding achievement and potential. In general, representation at county level will be expected together with a recommendation from a regional sports body. Applicants must also have a written reference from the PE staff at their current school or an appropriate coach. They must also put together a record of recent achievement. Formal interviews for Sport Awards will be held at 11+ and 13+ on Thursday, 25th January 2007. Candidates will be interviewed by the Headmaster and the Head of Games and PE. They will also be assessed in a series of physical activities on the day of the interview. During the 2005/6 academic year, the school had five pupils playing representative sport at national level. Full details are available on the website - www.thekingsschool.co.uk Gloucestershire CCC have recently announced that The King's School is to become a Junior Academy under the English Cricket Board (ECB) initiative. ---------- The King's School is now a partnership school within the Gloucester and England RFU Junior Academy. The P.E. and Games Department run courses to G.C.S.E and 'A' level. A community sports leaders course is available in the Lower Sixth. Overseas tours have developed significantly in recent years with a cricket and netball tour to Barbados, hockey tour to South Africa and regular rugby tours to Ireland. A cricket tour to Australia is planned for March 2007. Plans are well in hand for the building of a new indoor sports facility. Drama AwardsCandidates with particular talents in Drama may request an audition with the Head of Drama. This will normally involve the presentation of a prepared script and an unseen piece and will be followed by an informal interview. Auditions for drama awards at 11+ and 13+ will take place on Thursday, 25th January 2007 Recent School productions include 'Oliver', 'Merchant of Venice' and 'Pride and Prejudice' - all at the New Olympus Theatre. Art AwardsCandidates able to demonstrate a passionate interest in creative art may be considered for an Art Award. Interviews will take place with the Head of Art and Design Technology on Thursday, 25th January 2007. Candidates are required to bring along a portfolio of their recent work for discussion; they will also be given an appropriate Design and Make assignment to complete on the day of the interview. The Art and Design Department provides opportunities for students to work with many traditional and contemporary media. Music AwardsA separate leaflet is available outlining detailed arrangements for candidates who wish to be assessed for a Music Exhibition. |
