Henry VIII to Harry Potter

King's Gloucester is one of the seven prestigious schools in England refounded by Henry VIII in 1541. We are proud of our long history, but like our founder, we take care not to let tradition stand in the way of progress. One of its most distinctive features is its association with Gloucester Cathedral.

The School nestles beneath the grand Norman architecture and thrives within historic environs and precincts. The buildings lend themselves to small, co-educational classes, thus providing the traditional atmosphere where moral and academic values can be fostered.

Indeed, daily life for our pupils starts with a morning assembly in the Cathedral. All of us associated with the school cannot help but absorb the grandeur and history of the place, and we believe that our pupils' lives at school are enhanced on a daily basis.

More recently the school has played host to the biggest-selling children's film of modern times, Harry Potter. In 2000, filming for the first film in the series, 'Harry Potter and the Philosopher's Stone' was carried out in the Cathedral Cloisters, with many pupils from the school becoming extras for the film. Since the success of the first film Warner Brothers have returned to produce the second film in the series, 'Harry Potter and the Chamber of Secrets'.

"This must be the finest school chapel in the realm" David, Bishop of Gloucester

"The King's School pupils were the best group of extras we have worked with, polite but not arrogant, intelligent and incredibly nice"

Christopher Columbus Director: - 'Harry Potter' films 1 and 2
