The transition from Wardle House to King's Junior is designed to be as smooth as possible, to set the right tone for a settled and productive life at school. Part of this foundation is the building of each individual's confidence and self-esteem, which we see as a vitally important aspect of the educational process.
" When I left Wardle House to go over to Junior School I was scared, nervous and excited because of the very big playground"
Isabella Lachecki, Transition 2002
Curriculum
As our pupils move through King's Junior, they face increasing challenges and responsibilities, but by the end of their final year, our goal is to ensure that each is well prepared and ready to move on to the next phase of his or her education.
The King's Junior curriculum includes an early introduction to foreign languages and the core skills required for ICT. Humanities are taught in their separate subjects and science is taught within the laboratories.
Full use is made of The King's School science, technology and ICT facilities. Subject specialists from senior school contribute to the delivery of the curriculum.
"We had a brilliant French lesson today, we all took in some French food to eat, and I took croissants"
Joshua, Upper Prep
Choristers
The Cathedral Choir has twenty boy choristers, aged between 8 and 14, who are educated at The King's School. They rehearse daily and sing regularly at Cathedral Services. They play a major part in the Three Choirs festival, the world's oldest music festival. The Choir makes radio and television broadcasts,
CD recordings and concert tours abroad. Recent performances have been given in the USA and Australia.
The Choristers receive an unparalleled musical education. They gain a strong sense of responsibility, self-discipline and team spirit.
The general skills gained in the Choir are of immeasurable value throughout the boys' lives, whether or not they choose to pursue music as a career.
"From day one, the teachers were interested in my son. You will love it here - if you have a problem they listen to you, deal with it, and do not hold it against you"
Chorister Parent
