Thoughts on sixth form life by Michael Amherst
I thoroughly enjoyed my time in the Sixth Form at King's, it provided me with much more than just a place to do my A-Levels. There is a whole array of societies, such as Philosophy Society, Film Club and the still-born 'Intricate Waistcoat Society'. The great thing about all of these is that the pupils organise them as well as just participating. Pupils suggest themes or destinations for our many Sixth Form social events and trips, and Mr Webster, camera in hand, works hard to ensure that we all have a good time. Then there is the tutorial system, which means that whether you have a problem at home or at school there is always someone there to help. I found that in my time at King's I made some lifelong friends and came away with some lifelong memories.
I only hope that it isn't all downhill from here!
Barbados 2000 by Emily Foreman
In July 2000, two sports teams and a 'Barmy Army' of supporters departed to display their sporting talents on the Caribbean Island of Barbados. The girls were to prove their worth on the netball court, while the boys were going to display their prowess on the cricket field.
The Bajan teams were athletic and played in a class of their own, but we matched them all in enthusiasm and demonstrated excellent teamwork. We did not find it hard to relax, we sampled the Bajan nightlife in local restaurants, enjoyed the street festivals and each other's company. One particularly memorable occasion was spending the day on a catamaran, snorkelling among the exotic fish, and sailing around the island. It was a highlight for us all.
At the end of the tour we were all sad to be leaving the beautiful island, our friends and the members of staff. We all have treasured memories of the special and unique tour.
