ICT is no longer a subject saved for the technically minded. It can be as highly valued as English and Maths. From the basic knowledge of how to turn a computer on to understanding the intricacies of a computer network, a thorough understanding of ICT is something we see at King’s as a vital element of a pupil’s education.
Many of us find our everyday lives are driven by technology of one kind but no more so than in the workplace and studying ICT at King’s provides pupils with a solid grounding in a wide range of software as well as an understanding of how and why things work, providing a relevance to today’s world and into the future.
ICT is compatible with all other subjects as each has an ICT element, particularly at GCSE level. However, it also something that complements the enquiring mind as it invites an individual to ask why.
In the lower years of senior school pupils gain a comprehensive understanding of everyday software from subject specialist teachers. While as they move towards GCSE examinations pupils are given options on their level of ICT study, studying it as a formal GCSE or just seeking the help and support for their other subjects. If it is something they wish to pursue, pupils are equipped with the knowledge to pursue a personal interest in computing. This includes providing a platform to study ICT at A Level with the view to a career in computing.
Drop-in sessions are also available as well as the opportunity to gain work experience with former pupils, the School’s own ICT Team or a local company.
