The Senior School Library is located at the very heart of the school within the Bishop's Palace. Beneath the wooden vaulted ceiling and under the magnificence of the stained glass windows, pupils and staff can read, study or access the computer suite.
Each pupil and every member of staff has the right to use the Library and to borrow materials, including books, DVDs, CDs, and audio books. Periodicals and daily newspapers are available for use in the Library.
Either Mrs Youldon or Mrs Houghton will be in the Library during the opening hours of 9.30 – 5pm Monday to Friday, and both are very happy to assist with all enquiries.
On the main floor of the Library there is formal seating at tables for 24 people and more relaxed style seating for an additional 20 people.
The Library Mezz has a suite of 14 networked computers which can be used by classes during lesson time and for work only under supervision at break and lunchtimes. All of the computers have access to the Internet and the School's Network and are linked to both a black and white and a colour printer.
The efficient control of the 20,000+ items of stock is assisted by the use of an automated Library Management System, through which items can be located, by searching under a variety of headings, loaned and recalled. Stock is under constant review to ensure that all materials are up-to-date and in good condition.
The Careers Library, nestled within the main floor of the Library, offers information in books, leaflets and university and college prospectuses.
During two lunchtimes each week the Library hosts either The Chess Club or The Board Games Club.
A recent, and very successful, innovation has the been the introduction of a 20 minute silent reading period in the Library once each week, for every English Group from First Form through to Fifth Form.
