Introduction
Biology is studied in spacious and well equipped laboratories which are part of the main Science Block.
The courses can be regarded as an extension of GCSE level work. Students should therefore have demonstrated a higher level of ability and motivation in Biology at GCSE level and also have a sound working knowledge of GCSE Chemistry and Mathematics. The study of Chemistry to AS level is desirable.
The one year AS course can be used as a final qualification, allowing students to broaden their studies and develop their interest and enthusiasm for Biology. The two year 'A' level course is designed both for students preparing for a university or professional course in a biological subject, and as well as those who wish to continue their biological studies in more depth but do not intend to continue after leaving school. It may support learning in other subjects such as PE or Psychology.
Practical work is an important element of the course. It supports the learning in each module and develops the skills required for scientific investigation.
