The practical impact of Physics in industry and technology is stressed and reference to the applications of the principles in everyday life situations, along with regular practical work, make the subject very accessible. The emphasis on practical work, allowing students to develop both their practical skills to an advanced level and gain a deeper insight into the aspects of Physics that underpin the experiments. The format of the sessions is closer to that of a university undergraduate lab than traditional school practical work.
Small set sizes mean that students receive an individualised programme tailored to their needs, with strong support for those students who need it and stretching, challenging work for the highest achievers. In recent years, a high proportion of A2 Physics sets have gone on to study Physics or related topics such as Engineering at top universities.
