King’s School Gloucester celebrates strong GCSE results in its 485th year
Pupils at the King’s School in Gloucester, the county’s oldest independent school, are celebrating more excellent exam results today. As the school’s 485th anniversary year draws to a close, the Year 11 pupils notched up nearly 70% top grades of 6-9 in their GCSEs. There were outstanding performances in subjects such as DT, Greek and French, where there was a 100% pass rate at grades 7-9, with subjects such as Biology, Chemistry, Physics, Drama and Latin all achieving a pass rate of around 90% at grades 6-9. King’s has a tradition of academic excellence and is proud still to offer a diverse and rewarding variety of GCSE subject options.
Double-top for twins at King’s!
Two sets of King’s twins achieved remarkable results in their GCSEs this year. Haya and Lila Ibrahim, from Tibberton, amassed an incredible 20x grade 9s, as well as passing Further Maths and each gaining A grades in their Extended Project Qualification (EPQ). Meanwhile, Rufus and Matilda Hoskins, from Cheltenham, also achieved an excellent 18x grades 7-9 between them.
Mr David Morton, Headmaster, commented, “As always at King’s, we are incredibly proud of our Year 11 pupils. This year’s GCSE cohort are strong all-rounders in areas as diverse as Art, Music, Sport and Drama. They include former world-class choristers and gymnasts, Gloucester RFC and Gloucestershire Cricket Academy members, a Birmingham City footballer, several County and England Talent Academy hockey players, and many other skills besides. One pupil even challenged himself to raise over £1,000 by doing a skydive for National Star College whilst studying for his GCSEs. Alongside their external commitments and rewards, the pupils have worked very hard to attain strong academic results and they richly deserve their success.”
The King’s School now concludes a year of celebrations having reached the 485th anniversary of its foundation in 1541. This year’s excellent GCSE results have rounded off a very successful year for the county’s oldest independent school.
