KING'S SCHOOL SHORTLISTED AT THE TES INDEPENDENT SCHOOL AWARDS 2021

The most outstanding schools in the independent sector have been recognised in the shortlist for the 2021 Tes Independent School Awards and it's been revealed that the King's School has been shortlisted for the Student Initiative of the Year award for the King's / Thomas Franks Feeding Communities Programme.

In this programme our Sixth Form students learn practical skills to prepare them for life after school, whilst helping the most vulnerable in the local community.

The students are taught the most important aspects of food hygiene, kitchen safety, nutrition, and healthy eating. Students also learn how to prepare and to cook simple meals, such as spaghetti bolognaise, macaroni cheese, and chicken or vegetable curry, as well as a variety of simple deserts. These sessions, delivered as part of the Sixth Form curriculum and in conjunction with our School caterers, Thomas Franks, provide students with essential skills to cook for themselves when they leave school.

The portions that the students prepare are then taken from the School and are delivered to Gloucester Feed the Hungry, a volunteer organisation which distributes hot meals, clothing and emergency food parcels to the homeless and vulnerable in the local community.

The King’s School prides itself on the holistic education and wider opportunities offered to its students, and also prides itself on the important role its students can play in helping those most in need in the local community. King’s Feeding Communities has provided essential support to local people who have most needed it, and continues to do so, whilst at the same time teaching students how to live as independent young adults in an ever-changing world.

The TES  Independent School Awards winners will be announced at a virtual ceremony on Friday 30 April 2021.
