Sport
Sport at King’s is not only fun, it helps to build skills, fitness and resilience along with many other personal qualities.
As with any other subject, the way children are introduced to sport and PE can influence their attitude to it for years – perhaps for life. So we are careful to ensure we provide a wide and attractive choice of sporting activities together with excellent teaching and facilities.
Junior School children benefit from PE and Games sessions throughout the week and start to play competitive sports from the age of eight. Our standard programme includes hockey, rugby, cricket, rounders, netball, tennis, athletics, football and swimming. We also offer less traditional sports in our activities programme, these vary on a termly basis.
Details of all the School's match fixtures and results can be found on the School Sports App here
For Year groups 3-6 (Lower Prep, Upper Prep, Lower Shell and Upper Shell) the children follow the sports programme below:
| Term | Girls | Boys |
|---|---|---|
| Michaelmas | Hockey | Rugby |
| Lent | Netball | Hockey |
| Trinity | Rounders/Cricket | Cricket |
Girls and boys also have swimming lessons throughout the school year.
Those with the desire to excel are given every opportunity to reach their goals. Our Junior School Gifted and Talented Programme supports promising young sportsmen and women, helping them to enhance their fitness and conditioning. At the same time, all pupils enjoy access to outstanding coaching and positive sporting experiences. School fixtures take place during the week, usually on Wednesdays and Fridays.
Junior School Gifted and Talented Programme
Talented sports girls and boys are invited to join King’s Junior School Gifted and Talented Programme, to not only improve their skills, but also their fitness and conditioning; providing those who have the desire to excel, every opportunity to achieve their goals and develop their ability.
Successful candidates will benefit from expert PE staff and coaches, who are specialists in their fields. The experience of being coached by the best staff, many of whom have represented their country, will not only enable pupils to achieve the very best that they can in their sport, but means they are also truly inspired to shine.
