485th Anniversary

485th Anniversary

King's celebrates its 485th anniversary this year, launching a year of celebrations as we mark 485 years since King Henry VIII re-founded the Abbey school. We begin on the road to our 500th anniversary in 2041 with great ambition for the school and its community.

We began the celebrations at the start of the academic year with a launch event for alumni, pupils, parents, staff and local community leaders. Guests spent the evening reflecting on some of the highlights of the last 485 years and also looking ahead to our exciting plans for the future. The evening had a Performing Arts focus to celebrate the wonderful drama, dance, choral music and instrumental performances which King’s has produced in recent decades.

The event marks the launch of the King's Gift, our new fundraising campaign, which focuses on Bricks and Bursaries with the first capital project being our Performing Arts Centre which will be a shared facility with the local community. We hope you enjoy this quick recap of our evening, more information about our King’s Gift campaign can be found on our King's Gift Campaign pages.
