Music Whole School

Following a successful fund-raising campaign at recent concerts and generous donations from parents and friends of King's, we have been able to buy two splendid new pianos for our Music School.

New, high quality pianos have been on Mr Pennington's 'wish list' for a few years because we have increasing numbers of pupils wanting to learn to play them.  After moving in to the wonderful new Music School in February, the desire for pianos increased.

The money donated by parents and friends was matched by the school’s Foundation funds. With just over £14,000 to spend, we were able to buy a new Kawai K-300 upright piano and a Yamaha C3 grand piano - played here by First Form pupil Rosa -  from Coach House Pianos in Swansea. The grand is an identical piano to that which we already have in the Ivor Gurney Hall, but its tone is more mellow and suitable for the space in which it now resides.  Pupils and teachers now have access to these beautiful instruments.

The grand piano makes rehearsing much easier with its low profile and both instruments are of exam standard should we wish to hold music exams in the department, or record pupils as part of their GCSE and A Level performances.  They are beautiful instruments to play - the tone is exquisite - and they will inspire not just the beginner pianist, but also allow pupils at the higher ability level to develop and focus their technique.

We would like to express our sincere thanks to everyone who contributed to our fund-raising campaign for the pianos, helping to secure quality instruments for many generations to come.
