Welcome Rendcomb Parents and Pupils
A warm welcome to parents and students from Rendcomb College. All at King’s are very sorry to learn that Rendcomb College will close from the end of the current academic year. The closure of any school, especially one with such a long rich history, is incredibly upsetting for all involved. Please be reassured that the King’s School community is here to support you wherever possible.
You will have a huge amount to process, and no doubt you will be considering many different educational options for your child. Choosing the right school for your child at this time of change is a challenging decision and is not one to be rushed. Please take time to consider your options to ensure your choice is future proofed for your family. King's may or may not be the right school for you but we are here to support you in your next steps with honesty and transparency.
This page aims to outline the process and agreement that King’s has arranged with the Trustees of Rendcomb College and which we are offering to all Rendcomb families to simplify the admissions process between now and September 2026.
To help parents to navigate the admissions process, we would like to offer this simple statement:
King’s will seek to honour the agreed terms with Rendcomb parents so that their child is offered a place at King’s on the same terms as they currently hold.
For families with pupils in current Years 10 and 12, and for any siblings, who wish to join King’s before September 2026, we would not charge fees for the remainder of this academic year, but we would ask that families honour your fee commitment to Rendcomb College up until the end of the Summer Term 2026. For these priority year groups King's are already working to ensure a smooth transition between schools in terms of course work, syllabus and examination boards as well as core pastoral care.
With King’s fees being lower than those at Rendcomb in many year groups, for many parents there will be a saving in fees – the lower King’s fees will be applied to new joiners next year. For those pupils where King’s fees are higher than those at Rendcomb, we will match what parents would have paid next year. This offer includes scholarship and bursaries.
In order to simplify the admissions process to King’s, we will not require Rendcomb pupils to come and take our entrance assessments. We will simply ask Rendcomb to provide a reference for each pupil and we can proceed from there.

Why King's
The unique features of King’s, which visitors identify time and again, are the inclusive community, the warmth of welcome and the level of individual care for our pupils. King's has strong pupil numbers and a record of academic success which is underpinned a celebrated range of co-curricular activities, and outstanding pastoral care.
King’s and Rendcomb have a great deal in common. In ethos, both are educational charities which are pupil-focused and place great importance on pastoral care.
King’s is wholly a day school; this means that our pupils live locally and can develop strong friendships with their peers around the county.
Both schools offer a 3 – 18 education with a change at 11+ and have beautiful campuses with a mix of historic and modern buildings. King’s have a wonderful school chapel in the form of Gloucester Cathedral and our academic and sports facilities are second-to-none.
Lastly, and perhaps most importantly, the ethos of the schools is the same, meaning that pupils are happy, well-supported and are not lost in the crowd.
